Wind power in numbers

With more than 31,600 MW of installed capacity, wind energy is the primary source of electricity generation in Spain, currently covering 24% of demand. This is a significant milestone for the energy sector and reflects the country’s commitment to the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
In Spain, there are 1,412 wind farms with 22,486 wind turbines installed, generating more than 59,300 GWh.
In 2024, 1,186 MW of new capacity was added, doubling the amount installed the previous year (675 MW). A total of 37 new wind farms were built with 240 wind turbines.
Spain is the sixth country in the world in terms of installed wind power capacity, after China, the United States, Germany, India and Brazil, and the second in Europe after Germany.

Global installed wind power capacity has 1,136 GW, of which 1,052.3 GW came from onshore installations and 83.20 GW from offshore. In 2024 were added 113.23 GW of new capacity: 108.05 GW from onshore projects and 5.18 GW from offshore wind. This was the highest year ever for onshore wind installations, surpassing the 105.8 GW recorded in 2023. Actually there are 80 countries with more than 100 MW of installed wind capacity. For offshore wind, 2024 ranked as the third-best year in terms of new capacity installed.
In the first quarter of 2026, we will report on the figures from 2025.
